About Partia Zelenykh Ukrainy (Party of Greens of Ukraine)

1990 - Founding of Partia Zelenykh Ukrainy (Party of Greens of Ukraine) by a group of environmentalists from the Zelenyi Svit (Green World) Ukrainian Environmental Association - the first national wide environmental NGO existing since 1987.  The first party Congress was held September 30, 1990 in Kyiv city. 

1991 - The Party was officially registered by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine May 24, 1991.  Partia Zelenykh Ukrainy is one of the oldest Ukrainian political parties since the Soviet Union.  The party represents regional organizations in all the 27 administrative regions of the country.

1998-2002 - The party is represented by parliamentarians in the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) with the faction of 26 MPs, among them - 19 elected by the party list and 7 independent elected in majoritarian constituencies (Ukraine has a mixed proportional-majoritarian electoral system).

2001-2002 - the party is represented in the national government with Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources.

Since Partia Zelenykh Ukrainy's establishment, the party has had representatives at the local level in several regions of Ukraine. Currently, following the regular elections of 2015, the party has representatives in the Tchernivtsi region (Western Ukraine), Tcherkasy region (Central Ukraine), Dnipro region (Eastern Ukraine) and Kherson region (Southern Ukraine) with 6 factions total in the district, town and city Councils.

Since 1994 - Partia Zelenykh Ukrainy has been a member of the European Federation of the Green Parties, and since 2004 a member and co-founder of the European Green Party (EGP).

The supreme governing body of the party is the Congress held every two years. In between Congresses - Political Council consisted with the Heads of the regional organizations and party Board members.

In 1992-2006 and since 2014 till present time leaded by Mr. Vitaliy Kononov.
