It's democracy stupid!

Trade is back on the policy agenda of civil society and Green parties throughout the world. This time it's not about the WTO and impacts on developing countries. It's about the competitive race amonst developed and emerging countries to establish deep reaching Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) amongst themselves. And the key question is the fate of democracy. Greens Japan - stop the TPP

Greens Japan opposes Japan's participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the partnership's framework. The TPP has the potential to deliver serious damage to Japanese agriculture, particularly for small-scale farmers who supply the majority of Japan's food production, and to decrease Japanese food sovereignty and self-sufficiency. New Zealanders say no to the TPP

Last year, a National Day of Action on 8th November saw thousands of concerned citizens march in protests and rallies across New Zealand. Another Day of Action on 7th March this year saw anti-TPP protests in 22 towns and cities throughout the country. New Zealanders do not want this deal and the Greens are making sure their voices are heard. Read more

US Greens speak out against TTP, TTIP

The Green Party of the United States has opposed the TPP and TTIP ever since plans for these international trade agreements were reported. They say that the Republicans and Democrats have place themselves on the wrong side of the century's most urgent crises and warn that these trade agreements will oursource jobs, lower labour standards and over-ride environmental, food safety and public health protections. Planning ahead

The Global Greens Coordination (GGC) held a rare face to face meeting in Brussels on 18-21 March to plan ahead and set priorities for the next three years. Wide-ranging discussions covered the next Congress in 2017, the state of Green politics globally and how to coordinate our efforts on climate change in the lead up to COP21 in Paris amongst other things. The Global Greens are seeking a committed, capable and energetic person to be the new Coordinator of the Global Greens. The successful person will work collaboratively with Greens globally and play a central role in the development of the world’s most progressive political movement. The position is based in Brussels. UK votes - 7 May

The British election is just two days away and is widely regarded as one of the most interesting in years. The Greens are enjoying an unprecedented membership surge but likely to be denied seats because of the archaic first-past-the-post voting system. Finnish Greens election victory

The Finnish Greens are celebrating an increased vote and 15 MPs, five more than before, after their 17 April elections. Finnish Greens Chair Ville Niinistö says 'when other parties where talking about the structure, we were talking about schools, jobs, environment and poverty. We want a better future for our children, more jobs in cleantech industry, free-flowing rivers and an unconditional basic income'. Congratulations! Read more
