Remembering Fukushima - Greens Japan say no to nuclear

Nine years ago a 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami triggered a nuclear meltdown at Fukushima. The quake and tsunami left more than 18,000 people dead and destroyed homes and businesses. 160,000+ people had to flee and there are still 40,000 people unable to return home due to radiation contamination.

Greens Japan released this statement on the anniversary of Fukushima. They highlight issues that the media is not fully covering.  They explain how the Abe Administration is pushing to restart nuclear power stations (!!), is about to release approx.1.2 million tonnes of radioactive contaminated water and are using the Olympics to try and create "closure" on a catastrophe that is far from finished.

The Green Party Korea have also released a statement remembering Fukushima, highlighting the international injustice of Japan's government decision to release nuclear waste water into our shared seas and re-emphasise the importance of their parites denucleraisation platform. Read more here
