Global Greens Planning Ahead

The Global Greens Coordination (GGC) adopted five priorities to guide the Global Greens' work for the next three years at their face to face meeting in Brussels on 18-21 March. The priorities are:  communications, federation/party support and development, campaigns, website and database management and fundraising.

As well, the meeting discussed a wide range of other issues including -

  • the fourth Global Greens Congress which will be held in Europe early in 2017 combined with the European Greens Congress

  • plans for a coordinated Greens climate campaign and presence at COP21, the crucial 21st UN conference in Paris in December 2015 where governments must agree on pollution reduction targets beyond 2020

  • the state of Green politics globally with reports and analysis from each of the federations

  • a process for considering membership applications from Green parties in the Middle East

  • relationships with the Global Young Greens

  • ways of functioning more effectively as a global organisation with limited resources.

We appreciated the opportunity to meet Mar Garcia Sanz, the new Secretary General of the European Greens, and Reinhard Buetikofer, Co-Chair of the European Greens, and to have previous Secretary General Jacqueline Cremers and former GGC member Catherine Greze join us at the meeting.

Since the previous GGC face to face meeting in November 2013, the Global Greens has become a legally registered non-profit organisation in Belgium, conducted its first micro-campaign on climate change, put Global Greens News onto a more regular bi-monthly footing, expanded our supporter lists and started FROGG (Friends of the Global Greens) - our much-appreciated group of regular donors who support the Global Greens.

In mid-2014 we farewelled our first full-time Global Greens Secretary Alice Rosmi and welcomed Veronica Juzgado as her interim replacement. In the next few weeks we will be advertising the ongoing position of Global Greens Secretary/Coordinator - sign up to ‘keep informed’ if you are interested.

This GGC meeting has laid the basis for the Global Greens to grow and become increasingly effective in the next three years so we can give more people a Green voice in parliaments and local councils around the world.
