Paris Agreement will enter into force on 4 November

The Global Greens are delighted that the Paris Agreement to tackle global warming will come into force less than a year after it was negotiated – lightning speed in UN terms.

The Agreement needed to be ratified by 55 countries responsible for over 55% of global emissions and already 76 countries have joined, accounting for 60% of emissions.

We congratulate all the countries that have moved so quickly to ratify the Agreement from the smallest Pacific Island countries to the big emitters.

The Agreement is just the beginning – now the world must work together to stop the pollution, make renewable energy available to all, protect our forests and natural ecosystems and develop new economic frameworks to underpin sustainability.

Greens will be at the forefront of climate action working inside and outside parliaments at every level from local to global to give the world the best chance of meeting our goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees.

Note
Greens will be at COP22 in Marrakech in November this year which will include the first meeting of Parties to the Paris Agreement.
Climate change will be a key focus for Greens 2017, the joint Congress of the Global Greens and the European Greens on 30 March – 2 April 2017 in Liverpool, UK
