Green Party History

The first Green Parties in the world were founded in 1972 - March 23 on the state level in Tasmania (Australia) and May 30 on the national level in New Zealand.

Today there are Green Parties recognized in at least 86 counties in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Americas.

The first Green elected to a national parliament was in Switzerland in 1979. Today there are over 300 Greens elected to national parliaments and the European Parliament.
