Declaration of the Global Greens Coordination regarding the presidential election campaign of the Colombian Green Party

The Global Green Coordination representing more than 80 green parties from around the world, greets the surging campaign for the upcoming presidential elections being conducted by the Colombian Green Party and its candidate Antanas Mockus. The spectacular support they are receiving opens a completely new and promising perspective for this country, delivering hope to overcome the dominating violence, corruption and social injustice. We call on the Colombian electorate to vote for Antanas Mockus and the proposals of the Colombian Green Party.

Global Greens urgently call on Rwandan President Paul Kagame to remove obstacles to the creation of Green Party in his country

The Global Greens today called for urgent and clear intervention by Rwandan President Paul Kagame to assure the democratic rights and security of the peaceful, democratic, green activists who participated in the Founding Congress of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR) held on the 30th October 2009.

Global Greens call on Iranian regime to stop repression of peaceful protests

The Global Green Coordination has condemned in the strongest terms the brutal repression of broadly peaceful protests by the Iranian security forces in Tehran and other cities throughout Iran. The government in Iran, like everywhere else in the world, has a responsibility to respect the right of citizens to protest peacefully. The violence unleashed against protesters must cease immediately and there must be an impartial investigation into the behaviour of the security forces.

Global Greens condemn violence in Peru

The Global Green Coordination has called for an independent investigation into the actions of police in the Amazonian region of Peru which resulted in at least 50 deaths. After the violence near the town of Bagua Grande, hundreds more people, mainly indigenous people, are missing and it is alleged that police have hidden hundreds of bodies. Indigenous people were protesting against new legislation which will mean their land can be exploited for oil and gas drilling.

Global Greens delighted and relieved at news of Colombian Green Party leader Ingrid Betancourt's rescue

The members of the Global Greens Coordination expressed their joy and relief after learning that Ingrid Betancourt, the former leader and presidential candidate of the Colombian Green Party (Partido Verde–Oxigeno), has been freed after being held hostage by the FARC Guerrilla for more than 6 years.
