Supporting Sovereignty and Treaty for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples 

Preamble:

The Global Greens recognise that:

  1. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are the first peoples of Australia with a connection to the land stretching back at least 40,000-60,000 years
  2. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a strong cultural and spiritual connection with the land, waters, flora and fauna, and their rights and obligations as owners and custodians must be respected
  3. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sovereignty was never ceded.  

Operative Text:

The Global Greens  call on the Australian Government to:

  1. Recognise the dispossession of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people  
  2. Adopt a treaty or treaties that recognises the prior occupation and sovereignty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as a matter of urgency.
