The new Spanish green party, Equo, held its founding conference in Madrid on the 7-8th of July. Over 500 people attended the conference that approved the parties new Constitutional Charter and policy and strategy documents and electing the members of the parties Federal Commission (national coordinating body).
Spain is a highly diverse country with complex regional political cultures. This made uniting the various regional green parties and movements into a national structure quite challenging, particularly as many wanted to preserve their political identities and even some successful local coalitions. However through the robust debate at the conference this long held dream has been achieved.
