United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20)

Twenty years ago the Rio Earth Summit hailed a new era of international co-operation for environmental protection and sustainable development.  But what has really been achieved, and how do we take the next steps?  Twenty years on representatives of governments, NGOs, businesses and other groups are about to gather back in Rio de Janeiro to discuss these and other questions.

The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development will take place from June 20-22, 2012.

It will focus on two themes:

and pursue action in seven priority areas: decent jobs; energy; sustainable cities; food security and sustainable agriculture; water; oceans; disaster readiness
